The life of a Localization Project Manager (LPM)<\/strong> seems different day by day. None of us could tell what a new day\u2019s going to be like. Days are passing by serenely, whereas there are some when I could have too much on my plate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is one saying: \u201cEarly is on time, on time is late, and late is unacceptable!\u201d. That\u2019s why I always try to reach the office 15-30\u2032 earlier to get prepared. I usually turn on the computer and open mailbox on the arrival so that mails from vendors could be fully loaded before working hours start. Moreover, it is my responsibility to update if there would be any new termbase available, so showing up beforehand to have things done is essential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first task of the day is sending QR. Checking piles of emails and RPXs has become a usual task to any LPMs. In my opinion, it is a must for every PM to have proper time management. Up to this point, I hope that there would not have been any late submissions from language vendors. Also, I wish not to encounter any problems while importing those packages. Still, if I did, I ought to contact the vendors at any cost, regardless of different time zones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I spend about an hour on QR before new projects kick in. Every day, the amount and the type of projects are unalike, which makes our work not boring at all. At least that\u2019s what I think. LPMs work as a team and our members are incredibly supportive. Each of us takes turns to check and register projects in Database and LPM tracking file, compare the word count and help to solve issues if anyone needs. There are also projects that I have to handle by myself, and therefore I need to be extra careful not to forget to submit log files or clean files.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At last, it is time to eat and rest a bit to restore energy. Usually, team members prepare their own lunch, but on occasion, we share our food or have a meal together as well. Such good memories! Also, it is a chance to get my eyes off the screen for a while.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the short break, rechecking email is the next task to catch up with the information from the Headquarter in Korea. For LPMs, our duties are not only setting up new projects but also establishing communication between language vendors and the clients. This task leaves no scope for misunderstandings of any types by checking invoices, verification requests, updating Language Style Guide and so on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Later in the afternoon, if there would not be any projects to arrive, LPMs tend to use this time to gather and talk about the problems that we had been through. What we do is to discuss then look for solutions and advise each other. I think these sessions are generally helpful for our improvement in this profession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My long working day is about to come to an end. It is a habit of mine to go through all the work in the LPM tracking file again. Also, to be accountable for our obligation, LPMs keep an eye on others to make sure nothing is left behind. When I am confident that everything is fine, I feel accomplished and can finally go home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Being a Linguistic Project Manager is simple yet sophisticated. There are too many things to look at, and it is human nature to miss out on something. Nonetheless, I am pushing myself to its limit every day to be better at what I do and even a refined version of myself. Genuinely speaking, I would fail to do so if it has not been for the support from my colleagues and HSVN. Thus, it is always exciting for me to look forward to starting every new day at Hansem Vi\u1ec7t Nam<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
