Get Ready

We’re introducing a web-based version of MemoQ, which means you simply need to visit the MemoQ server URL and connect with the provided credentials using your preferred browser. After that, you may begin translating immediately.

Now that you have opened the WebTrans interface, let’s glance at all these icons and buttons. The largest window is the Working Area.

• Source Text: Contents you need to translate.
• Target Text: Your translated text.
• Segment No.: Number of segments.
• Tags: Marking texts with formatting or special functions.
  Tags must be placed at appropriate positions in your translation using F9 or Alt+F8.
  Tag pairs should cover the part of the target text corresponding to its counterpart in the source text.
• Match Rate: Match percentage between Source Text and data stored in Translation Memory.
  101%/100% Match means you have nothing to do with that segment (mostly!).
  Fuzzy Match (above 0% and under 100%) means you can leverage existing translation, and you MUST revise it.
  No Match (0%) means you should translate from scratch.
• Comments: Leave a comment if needed.
• Row Status: Indicating your progress, either Not started, Edited, Pre-translated, or Confirmed.
• Discussions: Create or join a discussion if needed.

On the top of the Translation Results Area, you’ll find some lines of text indicated by numbers in colored boxes. Apply these results to your translation by pressing Ctrl + Number (Ctrl + 1/2/3 in Fig. 4).

• DARK RED is TM Match, which means applying this line to your translation is safe for consistency and workload reduction.
• BLUE is Terminology, which means you are REQUIRED to use this line unless it is a different context.
• LIGHT ORANGE is an automated concordance, a translated phrase extracted from TM. It means you choose to use this line when appropriate.

There are other kinds of translation results with different colors; you can find them here for more information.

In the middle of this box, you’ll find Old Source, New Source, and Old Target of a fuzzy matched sentence. You may notice some track changes marked by RED (removed texts) and BLUE (added texts). Please refer to these marks and revise your New Target accordingly.

At the top of the Working Area is the WebTrans Toolbar, where you can find all the functions you may need during your translation process. Below are some of the important ones that you should pay attention to.

	Undo. (Ctrl+Z)
	Redo. (Ctrl+Y)
	Bold text. (Ctrl+B)
	Italic text. (Ctrl+I)
	Underline text. (Ctrl+U)
	Toggles non-printing characters (spaces, tabs, or line breaks) display. Turn this on to avoid redundant spaces.
	Replaces straight quotation marks (‘ and “) with smart quotation marks (“and “”) as you type.
	Selects all segments. (Ctrl+Shift+A)
	Copies the source texts to the target cells of selected segments. (Ctrl+Shift+S)
	Confirms a segment. (Ctrl+Enter)
	Performs concordance search. (Ctrl+K)
	Adds new terminology. (Ctrl+E)

Under the toolbar buttons, you can filter by Source, Target, and other criteria and/or sort all segments during translation. These functions will help a lot in projects with numerous segments and maintain consistency.

Get Started

Are you ready to begin your translation now that you’ve toured the MemoQ WebTrans interface? Here is a procedure to help you complete this task effectively and on schedule.

1. Check your Translation Request email for login information and PM’s instructions.
2. Access the MemoQ Server URL and log in with the provided credentials.
3. Open your assigned task.
4. Read the Source Text.
5. Check the Translation Result for the Fuzzy Match you may use and/or Terminology you must follow.
6. Translate from scratch OR revise Fuzzy Matched translation in Target Text.
7. Ensure all tags are positioned correctly, and all formatting is applied accordingly.
8. Press Ctrl + Enter to confirm a translated sentence.
9. Check your progress on the bottom left of your screen until it shows: .
10. Press  above the Toolbar area to fix all errors and mark false positives.*
11. Press  above the Translation Results area to submit your translated document.**
12. Notify your completion via email.
